Quick Answers
Civil Ceremony Photography at a Glance
Do I get a 3D virtual gallery with my session?
Yes - every Opus Lumière session of two hours or more includes The Growing Gallery, a private, password-protected 3D gallery of your finished photographs that you walk through and share with family. It is free for two years and gains a floor with every shoot. One-hour and 1.5-hour sessions don’t include it.
Which London town halls do you cover?
Town halls and register offices across London, along with the surrounding streets and gardens couples use for portraits afterwards.
How long do you stay?
From one to four hours, covering arrival, the ceremony, confetti and a short portrait session nearby.
Can you photograph during the ceremony?
Yes, where the registrar permits. Some restrict movement during the vows, so we agree what is allowed beforehand and plan around it.
What does the coverage include?
A planning conversation, coverage on the day, a private online gallery and your hand-edited high-resolution photographs with full rights to print and share.
Is there time for portraits afterwards?
Yes. Most civil ceremonies are short, which leaves time for a walk to a nearby setting for portraits without rushing.
When will we receive our photographs?
A private proofing gallery arrives within days, and your hand-edited images follow within a few weeks of your selection.
On the day
What we capture: civil wedding photography, moment by moment
Arrival & greetings

Confetti & portraits
The joy on the steps, then a short walk nearby for relaxed couple portraits.
Register offices
Town hall weddings in London: the register offices we photograph
Most civil ceremonies in London happen in one of a dozen register offices, and each has its own light, its own steps and its own best spot for confetti. These are the London register offices we know best - all inside the area we cover, with no travel charge.
Old Marylebone Town Hall wedding photos
The most popular London register office for a reason: Portland-stone steps for the confetti, tall windows inside, and Marylebone’s mews and Regent’s Park ten minutes away for portraits. Ceremonies run to a tight schedule here, so we arrive early and work fast on the steps.
Islington Town Hall
A sweeping marble staircase, a curved council chamber and Upper Street outside - one of the most photogenic town hall wedding venues in London.
Chelsea Old Town Hall
Edwardian detail, wood-panelled rooms and the King’s Road for a stylish walk afterwards; Chelsea Town Hall suits a smaller, dressed-up wedding party and photographs beautifully in soft afternoon light.
Hackney Town Hall and Stoke Newington Town Hall
Hackney Town Hall’s art deco interiors and Stoke Newington’s restored ballroom host two of east London’s best-loved registry office weddings, with Clissold Park and the canal nearby for portraits.
Mayfair Library and Wandsworth Town Hall
Mayfair Library gives you book-lined shelves and Mount Street’s quiet elegance; Wandsworth Town Hall’s marble hall and Battersea Park across the river make a relaxed south-west London day.
How a registry office wedding day usually runs
Arrive thirty minutes before the ceremony for the registrar’s interview; the wedding ceremony itself takes twenty to thirty minutes; then confetti on the steps, a walk to a nearby park or street for twenty minutes of natural, relaxed portraits, and on to lunch. Two hours of photography covers all of it; four hours takes you through the meal and the speeches. If the registrar limits movement during the vows, we agree what is allowed beforehand and plan around it.
What a civil ceremony photographer in London costs
Photography for a civil ceremony is priced by the hours you want covered - one to four - and we quote in full when you enquire, with no hidden extras. Full-day wedding coverage is a different budget; a town hall wedding needs a fraction of it, and we would love to hear about yours.
London’s most beautiful register offices
From the grand Portland-stone steps of Old Marylebone Town Hall to Islington’s marble staircase, Chelsea Old Town Hall’s Edwardian detail, and the contemporary character of Hackney and Southwark - the city’s architecture becomes part of your story.

Civil ceremony FAQ
What about giving notice?
Couples must give notice at their register office at least 29 days before the ceremony - see GOV.UK.
What is the average cost of hiring a wedding photographer in London?
Full-day London wedding photography is usually a four-figure budget and varies widely by photographer, so an average is not much use. A civil ceremony is different: it needs one to four hours of coverage rather than a full day, and we quote the exact figure in full when you enquire.
How much is a photographer for a wedding for 2 hours?
Two hours is the most common civil ceremony booking - arrival, a twenty-to-thirty-minute ceremony, confetti and a short portrait walk. We price by the hour with your hand-edited photos and private gallery included, and send the full figure when you enquire; there are no hidden extras.
Which London register office is best for photos?
Old Marylebone Town Hall for its steps and confetti, Islington for the marble staircase, Chelsea Old Town Hall for Edwardian detail and the King’s Road, and Hackney or Stoke Newington for art deco character with a park nearby. The best one is usually the one you can walk from to a place you love.
